-
The Global Commitment is led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in partnership with the UN Environment Program (UNEP).
-
The Commitment is a vision of a New Plastics Economy, where plastics never become waste. Amcor and every signatory endorses the vision and will work towards achieving it.
-
Amcor is one of more than 400 signatories, many of which are Amcor customers, including The Coca-Cola Company, Colgate-Palmolive Company, Danone SA, Diageo, Johnson and Johnson, L’Oréal, Mars Incorporate, Nestle, PepsiCo, and others.
-
Industry groups that support the vision include CEFLEX, The Consumer Goods Forum, Flexible Packaging Europe and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition.
-
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation began in 2010 with the aim of accelerating the transition to the circular economy. Since then, it has emerged as a global thought leader, putting the circular economy on the agenda of decision-makers in business, government, and academia.
-
Amcor is a core partner of the Foundation’s New Plastics Economy initiative alongside The Coca-Cola Company, Danone, MARS, Novamont, PepsiCo, Unilever, and Veolia.
-
Over four years, the New Plastics Economy initiative has rallied business and government behind a positive vision of a circular economy for plastics. Its 2016 and 2017 reports captured headlines worldwide.
-
In January 2018, Amcor and 14 other leading companies committed to work towards 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable plastic packaging by 2025. The Commitment takes this work to the next level – creating a global coalition of leaders with the power to prevent plastic pollution at the source.
-
The New Plastics Economy initiative is supported by Wendy Schmidt as Lead Philanthropic Partner, the Global Environment Facility, MAVA Foundation, Oak Foundation, and players of People’s Postcode Lottery (GB) as Philanthropic Funders.
