A Broad Variety of Potatoes

Leo de Kock offers its customers a broad selection of potato varieties, carefully selected according to taste, season and cooking types. Keenly in tune with its customers’ calls for sustainability, the producer focuses on reducing food and packaging waste as much as possible.

A Broad Variety Of Packaging Requirements

The company sought to deliver its fresh potatoes in unique, recyclable packaging tailored to the specific shape, size and chemistry of each variety, in different packet sizes to avoid food waste. Potatoes vary widely in size, taste and seasonal availability, with each variation having a huge impact on how they should be stored, cooked and served. In each case, unique packaging is required to preserve freshness and help different varieties stand out to customers.

Recyclable Packages that Sustain Freshness

To meet its sustainability and branding requirements, Leo de Kock uses Amcor's recyclable P-Plus packages with controlled micro-perforations tailored to each product. These help to prevent food waste by preserving freshness. Unique descriptions and cooking suggestions on the packets also help customers choose the exact potato variety they need.

Reduced Food and Packaging Waste

By using packaging with specialized micro-perforations, Leo de Kock is able to significantly extend the shelf-life of its potatoes. Its packaging is now 100% recyclable, and it is working with Amcor to find solutions that are also 100% compostable or biodegradable, to help customers dispose of remaining food in a sustainable way. Differentiated packages for varieties and cooking methods – such as small packets with a steam vent for cooking – help its brand to stand out.

“Amcor packaging helps us to delight customers and meet our sustainability goals – both with recyclable packets and by preserving freshness to reduce food waste” says Mariska Werring, Sales Manager for Leo de Kock.

About Amcor’s Recyclable P-Plus

Amcor’s micro-perforation P-Plus packaging is designed to maintain freshness and extend the shelf-life of products. Its tailored gas permeability naturally creates a modified atmosphere for storage, without gas flushing. This slows down the maturation, greening, and sprouting of potatoes to preserve nutritional quality and reduce food waste.

We offer recyclable versions of P-Plus using PP and PE, helping to reduce plastic waste and increase sustainability by making your packaging recyclable.

Recyclability is dependent on collection and recycling streams existing in each country. For information on recyclability in your market, our packaging experts can advise you.
