This World Water Day, find out how Amcor continues to reduce the environmental impact of our operations year-on-year by using water more efficiently at sites around the world.

At Amcor, reducing water use and managing it more responsibly in our operations – especially in water-stressed regions – is part of our worldwide sustainability commitment.
Our approach supports the global changes to water management being encouraged this World Water Day. As the global population grows, so does the demand for water. It is estimated that by 2050, population growth will increase the demand for water by 55%, causing intense pressure on natural water systems and damaging the environment in many places.
Through EnviroChart, Amcor tracks individual site’s energy consumption, waste production, and total incoming water to support our global EnviroAction program and make progress towards our goals. Those goals include lowering greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 60% by 2030, zero waste-to-disposal and improved efficacy of water use.
To achieve the latter, every Amcor site tracks its water use with a Water Management Plan (WWP). These plans help our sites identify how to use water more efficiently by reviewing their water-use profile and identifying opportunities for improvement. Efforts are particularly urgent in sites located in water-stressed regions. WWPs are updated annually and in FY19, we achieved 100% compliance.
