Today, conscientious consumers are looking for packaging that is easy to use, attractive, practical and that helps to minimize their impact on the environment.
In fact, 73% of consumers say they would change their consumption habits to reduce their environmental impact and are looking for brands and retailers that can help them achieve this. This means products and packaging that not only offer optimum freshness, but also extend shelf life.
A leading Italian retailer was looking for visually appealing vacuum skin packaging that used less plastic for its delicious fresh salmon cuts. The task wasn’t an easy one. Food safety, sustainability, visual appeal and flavor all had to be addressed.
MORE SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION
That’s where our SkinNova™ packaging concept came in: a SkinTite® skin film with a flat cardboard base laminated to our high-barrier liner. Compared to conventional MAP packaging materials, SkinNova™ minimizes the use of plastics by over 70% and reduces carbon footprint by 45%.
The hermetically sealed pack reduces food waste and extends shelf life by minimizing in-store leaks. And after use, the liner can be separated from the cardboard base, so it can be recycled clean and dry in the paper stream.
BETTER CONSUMER EXPERIENCE
The packaging is designed to be easy-to-open, making the product convenient, accessible and enhancing the overall consumer experience.
“SkinNova™ gives an almost perfect product appearance making it an instant catch on the shelves. Plus, there are no pleats in the film and it is recyclable.” explains Amcor Sales Manager Stefano Santagostino.
This new packaging solution was an instant hit on the shelf. Consumers were attracted by the natural-looking presentation, and the Italian retailer increased shelf space for SkinNova™-packaged salmon cuts by 4x.
