We promote diversity and inclusion because it adds strength and depth to our organization, and makes Amcor a better place to work. To celebrate International Women’s Day, on March 8th, we spoke to some of our incredible colleagues to discover more about them.

In this article, we chatted with Ilaria Borghi, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) & Maintenance Manager for Amcor Flexibles Soliera (Italy).

We were keen to discover what Ilaria gets up to when she’s not skiing down Europe’s highest mountains during her time off. We also wanted to find out why International Women’s Day has special meaning for her.

1. Can you tell us a little about your current role and what you like most about it?

Working as both an Environment, Health & Safety Manager and Maintenance Manager for the production site is very challenging because I need to combine highly technical skills and soft personal skills. But what could be more fulfilling than being trusted to make sure all your colleagues can go home safely at the end of every day. Knowing that what I do makes a real difference is the most rewarding part of my job.

Another part of my role here, which I love just as much, is being an Engagement Ambassador for the Amcor Flexibles Soliera plant. I lead a cross-department team that rolls out engagement initiatives such as social events, safety challenges and charity programs. The bowling tournament we had last year was so much fun!!

2. Engagement Ambassador? Can you tell us a little more about that?

Of course! The Engagement Ambassador initiative is designed to empower our people to become advocates for a positive workplace culture. So, our Engagement Ambassadors play a crucial role in enhancing communication, facilitating good practice sharing and identifying opportunities to engage our co-workers locally.

3. Could you tell us about your career journey so far?

It all started with my Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering. After graduating, I was keen to move into Health & Safety. This led me to attending specialist training courses and soon finding my first job in this field. After two previous roles as an EHS Specialist, I joined Amcor Flexibles Soliera in 2017 as an Environment, Health & Safety Manager. Then, in 2020, I also took on the role of Maintenance Manager of the plant as well.

4. How would your colleagues describe you in three words?

Practical. Consistent. Patient. (The shortest answer in this interview but the one that probably took me the most time!)

5. What does International Women’s Day (and #InspireInclusion) mean to you?

On International Women’s Day, we have a chance to celebrate all those great women who contributed with their passion and courage to fight against discrimination and secure rights that we take for granted today - I’m talking about things like the right to vote and equal employment opportunities. This day also represents an opportunity to keep the spotlight on gender-based violence, which is still a major issue in our society.

6. Finish this sentence, when you are not at home, we’re likely to find you…

… following my partner across the country to support him in mountain bike races, which also allows me to spend time in my beloved mountains! If I’m not there, I could be anywhere - that’s because I’m passionate about travel everywhere across the globe. Linked-in- womens dayIlaria2
