At Amcor we’re experts in using innovation to produce packaging which is designed to be recycled.
The Every Bottle Back initiative, led by The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo and KeurigDrPepper, alongside the World Wildlife Fund, the Recycling Partnership and Closed Loop Partners, is a fantastic example of the value of collaboration in reducing the level of plastic waste contaminating our environment.
Raising awareness amongst US consumers that the bottles they use every day can in fact be recycled will keep more plastic in the loop and reduce the number of plastic bottles going to landfill. If you remember soda bottles from the 1970s then you will remember they were chunkier and heavier than the ones we use today for our favorite drinks.
These bottles used to be made from a mixture of materials: a combination of aluminum screw cap, plastic (either polyethylene terephthalate – PET – or acrylonitrile) and hard black plastic base glued to the body of the bottle: all of which made the bottles extremely difficult to recycle.
Nowadays PET bottles – polyethylene terephthalate – are easily recyclable and are used by beverage giants like Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Keurig Dr Pepper. Creating and driving the mass production of PET bottles was fuelled by innovation.
We at Amcor are active supporters of Every Bottle Back initiative as part of our drive to create a plastics system which works and improves recycling rates in the US and beyond. We’re also proud to be expert producers of PET bottles, which ensure the drinks we buy everyday can be recycled after we’ve used them.
