Amcor teams around the world are supporting local communities. Through our global COVID-19 Community Program, we looked for opportunities to donate products that we make. Examples include bottles for hand sanitizer and medicine, and adapting our manufacturing to produce face masks.
As part of that program, Amcor collaborated with a leading sterilization organization to provide sterile barrier pouches to hospitals in need.
Healthcare systems across the world are being put under unprecedented strain by the devastating impact of Covid-19. Hospital sterilization centers are experiencing increased pressure to ensure the safety of both patients and frontline healthcare workers.
Responding to this global pandemic, Amcor donated last year one million of our sterilization pouches to hospitals in Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine to help in the fight against the spread of the virus in these countries.
Amcor has been collaborating with the World Federation for Hospital Sterilization Sciences (WFHSS), to identify countries who would benefit from our support. Dr. Christine Denis, President of the WFHSS outlines why this donation is so needed:
"This donation provided vital supplies to our colleagues working in hospital sterilization departments as they supported frontline services."
The aim of this donation was to help alleviate this situation and assist hospitals in meeting heightened demand for sterilized medical equipment.
Amcor is very grateful to all the associations involved, namely the Bulgarian Association for Prevention and Infection Control (BAPIC BulNoso), the Ukrainian Association for Sterilization & Disinfection (UAS&D), and the Romanian Association for Prevention and Control of Infections (APCI). Working with our distribution partners, they have agreed to take the lead in managing the logistics and distribution of equipment to hospitals in these countries.
