Amcor joins Alliance to End Plastic Waste

Amcor is today pleased to announce our membership of the Executive Committee of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (the Alliance). As a global packaging company with a record of leading on sustainability and eliminating waste through our innovations, our public commitments and our partnerships, Amcor is looking forward to supporting the Alliance in their mission.

The Alliance is an international organisation which, since 2019, has brought together 57 member companies and other project partners, allies and supporters who are committed to eliminating plastic waste from the environment. Amcor already has projects underway that actively tackle the problem of waste leakage and is aligned with the Alliance’s four strategic pillars – waste management and recycling infrastructure, innovation, education and engagement and cleaning up.

Examples of the Alliance’s current projects include Project STOP Jembrana in Indonesia, where a new waste management system is being built to address high volumes of plastic waste. The local community is being empowered to collect, sort, and sell their own waste. Another example of the Alliance’s work is the End Plastic Waste Innovation Platform, which fosters startups across the plastic value chain to accelerate innovation to eliminate plastic waste.

We are proud to bring our expertise to the Executive Committee - to help drive action that will reduce waste in the environment. Our membership of Alliance is the next step for Amcor’s market leading initiatives on tackling waste, including being the first packaging company to commit to designing all of our packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025.

Our involvement with the Alliance will complement our current collaborations with like-minded partners, which include the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, International Coastal Cleanup, ReSource: Plastic and Earthwatch Institute. Amcor’s innovations are ensuring that more and more of our packaging is designed to be recycled. Our partnerships with organisations such as Alliance ensure that more and more of that recyclable packaging is recycled.
