Capture platic pellets

At Amcor, we’re committed to offering responsible packaging solutions and reducing our impact on the environment.

A key part of this is ensuring that all our sites that handle plastic pellets, flakes or powders have robust processes to ensure this valuable material ends up in packaging and not the environment.

We take this responsibility seriously and we have developed best-practice Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and good housekeeping practices at all our sites where we use these materials.

To help us further build on and formalize our existing policies, all our sites that use plastic resin have now committed to Operation Clean Sweep’s (OCS) methodology for preventing plastic pellet loss. OCS is an international program that is dedicated to helping every plastic resin handling operation reach the goal of zero plastic resin loss.

For example, in order to apply OCS best practices, our sites have worked to identify OCS champions at each location, ensure employee communication and engagement, and implement training. We’re particularly encouraged by the outcomes already seen at several Amcor sites that piloted OCS in fiscal year 2019 and FY20, as we realized that many of our existing EHS practices are already aligned with the OCS methodology.

This commitment is just one of many programs we have at Amcor that are designed to protect our environment. Our EnviroAction program includes goals to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 60%* , achieve zero waste-to-disposal at all our sites, and to use water as efficiently as possible. We also recently committed to setting even more ambitious science-based targets as part of the pathway to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

We continue to innovate our packaging to use less materials, use more recycled content, eliminate problematic materials, lower carbon emissions, and ensure our products have a better end of life to prevent packaging waste. For example, in the last year we have launched and commercialized several new recycle-ready product platforms including the polymer-based AmLite™ and polyethylene-based AmPrima™ recycle-ready solutions. Additionally, we recently launched a new platform of paper-based packaging products called AmFiber™.
