Ceramis® high barrier films for converters at ICE Europe 2011

Ceramis® is a technology by which a SiOx coating is applied to various types of substrates such as PET, oPA, oPP and PLA. The coated films are produced by one of Amcor’s Swiss based plants running the most modern high vacuum coating machine of its type in Europe. Ceramis® films are highly transparent and offer an excellent combined barrier against gases, water vapour and aromas which is not affected by temperature and humidity. The SiOx coating serves as the barrier layer in lidding and pouch laminates as well as in other high tech products. Ceramis® films have a high mechanical resistance and are suitable for use on all converting machines.

Also on display at the exhibition, is an improved version of the biodegradable Ceramis®-PLA films which are made from nearly 100 % renewable natural resources. These films are fast becoming an attractive option for the market due to their sustainability offering.

Also present are the PET-SiOx films with a gauge of only 8 micron. The films allow a material reduction of 30% while still maintaining the excellent barrier properties and comply with the requirements of sustainability. They can be applied for all non-retortable products.

Thanks to the excellent transparency and film properties, Ceramis® high barrier films are suitable for a large variety of applications with special barrier and surface requirements both in the packaging industry and for technical products.
