According to Mordor Intelligence the European breakfast cereal market is growing at a CAGR of 4.2% across the forecast period 2020-2025. Changing food habits towards convenient and easily accessible foods that don’t require much preparation, as well as an increase in health awareness among consumers is driving this growth. However, as the interest in the breakfast cereals market grows so does the conversation around the sustainability of the packaging.
One of the key trends for cereal packaging is the development of more sustainable packaging materials. Growing consumer demand, the expansion of brands and businesses taking a more eco-focused view of their products and regulatory pressures is all leading to more sustainable solutions for bag-in-box cereals.
For businesses and brands, the implementation of more sustainable packaging solutions can be a challenge. Safety, efficacy and machinability must all be considered. Today we must also be aware of the raw material challenges and supply chain difficulties affecting businesses globally.
In response to these challenges, solutions such as the AmPrima® recycle-ready cereal liner portfolio are specially developed to combine the recyclability demanded by consumers, and the functionality required to ensure freshness and convenience. EVOH-free by design, the portfolio can deliver a recycle-ready solution that locks in freshness. And it’s designed to run on customers’ existing packing lines, creating a more convenient option for today.
Amcor’s AmPrima® recycle-ready PE-based solutions for cereal liners are readily available and already the preferred choice for some of the major FMCG companies worldwide.
The commitments laid out by businesses and governments to increase recycling and reduce their carbon footprint is driving innovation and change. Amcor’s own 2025 Pledge to develop all our packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025 has led to the development of a number of ground-breaking solutions, and ensures a commitment to keep striving for more sustainable solutions.
