Amcor Flexibles introduces SafeStick, a novel, child resistant, senior friendly tear-opening feature for pharmaceutical packaging that does not require a tear notch to open.

October 12, 2007

Unlike traditional tear open packs,SafeStick employs a print registered tear initiation point. The printed tear indicator, accompanied by text instructions, may be used as a stand-alone tear-open feature, or combined with a "fold first" or "squeeze first" operation to meet specific CR and end use requirements. The pack tears easily, but only at the area designated by the printed indicator and accompanying text.

"In addition to ease of opening in a CR format, this innovative design eliminates extra material and tooling costs associated with traditional notched or slit tear opening features." comments Teri Meadow, Director for Pharmaceutical Packaging. "The tear indicator can be located anywhere on the pack to meet product dispensing, CR criteria, and graphic design preferences," adds Teri.

The child resistant tear open pack can be incorporated into multiple formats, including pouches, sachets, and tear sticks. The packs are suitable for both OTC and prescription drugs in a wide range of pharmaceutical applications such as powders, liquids, oral dissolve strips, etc. The foil laminate materials can be gravure printed up to 8 colors.
