Shanghai, China:

Today the winners of the Amcor Innovation Packaging Contest in China were announced following a competitive final round during which 9 teams selected from over 450 national entries, competed for the title. Designed to encourage design and innovation among students at China’s universities, the contest invited students to demonstrate their creativity by presenting designs for the food and personal care markets and the winning team included 4 students from Wuhan University in China’s mid-west.

The Amcor Innovation Packaging Contest is unique in offering students an opportunity to contribute ideas that will be used to create safe, user-friendly and socially responsible packaging. In order to ensure that the ideas can be put into practice, the competition finalists worked alongside some of Amcor’s top designers to refine their ideas. As it embraces the latest technologies available, Amcor Flexibles is committed to balancing the need to create more environmentally-friendly designs which use minimal materials whilst ensuring the hygiene and safety of every user in particular in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific President Ralf K. Wunderlich explained “At Amcor, identifying and nurturing young talent is a core part of our strategy in China and across Asia and we are delighted to be able to offer these students an opportunity to showcase their ideas. We were impressed by the standard of the ideas presented and in particular, the sharing of local user insights from China. It is these local insight-driven ideas that are essential to help Amcor create relevant and safe, user-friendly products.”

The Amcor Innovation Packaging Contest was created to stimulate new ideas from students in different markets. Following a successful first year in Thailand in 2012, China was chosen for the 2013 competition. The winning team was judged by members of Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific’s leadership team including Asia Pacific President Ralf K. Wunderlich, and Vice President and General Manager of China Anthony Wong, have been awarded an all-expenses paid trip to Amcor’s global headquarters in Melbourne, Australia. Here, they will spend time at Amcor’s Innovation Centre where ideas for packaging the world’s biggest brands come to life. There will also be opportunities for an internship and further career development with Amcor. Following a trip to Melbourne by the 2012 winning team from Thailand, the three team members are now employed by Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, working in product development roles at the company’s Bangkok facility.
