Sustainability partnerships

We collaborate with like-minded partners in pursuit of innovative solutions to some of the world’s most urgent challenges.

Partnership in action

Ellen MacArthur Foundation:

Amcor is a partner in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's New Plastics Economy initiative and in FY19, we led or participated in:
- Project Barrier: to develop a global design-for-recyclability standard for high-barrier flexible packaging
- Project SEA: to assess material flows in Southeast Asia, develop data collection, and build strategies for recycling
- Project 42: to evaluate chemical recycling options, such as pyrolysis technology, and the economics behind them.

Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW):

In 2021, Amcor joined the Alliance to End Plastic Waste focused on mobilizing and scaling the infrastructure and technology solutions we need to end plastic in the environment. The AEPW convenes more than 70 companies from across the plastics value chain to develop Solution Models that are replicable at scale, targeting substantive increases in the collection and recycling of plastic waste to prevent it from entering the environment. Amcor is a member of the Board and Executive Committee and participates in technical expertise groups focused on collection and basic processing, recycling solutions, design/market solutions and societal engagement. We participate in regional workgroups across all our regions of operations, as well as in the Public Affairs, Viewpoint and Communication working groups.

Plastics Pacts:

In April 2019, Amcor became one of the first signatories in a new Plastics Pact formed in Chile, which brings together local companies, organizations, and NGOs with a focus on achieving a circular economy for plastics in the country.

Earthwatch Institute:

Since 2001, Amcor has partnered with Earthwatch Institute to send employees on environmental research expeditions around the world. In 2015, the focus of expeditions shifted to research related to marine debris. Each year, 15 Amcor people travel with a team of scientists to study the flow of waste from land to sea and conduct research that helps inform policy measures to prevent ocean pollution.

As a core partner in the New Plastics Economy initiative, Amcor works to increase recovery and recycling of plastic packaging. Find out more.

Through annual Earthwatch expeditions, Amcor co-workers partner with teams of scientists to conduct vital research about marine debris. Find out more.

In June 2020, Amcor joined WWF-led activation hub, ReSource: Plastic, a global consortium turning large-scale plastic commitments into meaningful, measurable progress.Find out more.

Collaborations to increase recycling

European collaboration, making flexible packaging relevant to the circular economy (building on the U.K.-focused REFLEX project).

The US-based Materials Recovery for the Future collaboration is improving efficiency of sorting and recycling facilities.

The Recycling Partnership is improving access to curbside recycling in the U.S.

Partners in protecting the planet

Each year, Amcor sends employees on science-based expeditions to contribute to research that is helping address urgent environmental challenges. Since 2015, that research has focused on tackling marine debris. Find out more.
