Why do you need life cycle assessment?

LCA uses data to measure the environmental impact of each stage of a product’s life cycle. ASSET ™ is certified by the Carbon Trust and applies the LCA model to packaging.

By looking at the full life cycle of a pack, including the extraction of raw materials, production and use, through to end of life – ASSET ™ provides a complete and fact-based comparison of different packaging options.

Your ASSET ™ assessment tells you the carbon footprint of different packaging options for your product, giving you visibility of the true impact of your packaging choices.

Communicate carbon footprint reductions on your packaging

Your ASSET ™ assessment supports you to make the most impactful packaging sustainability decisions. But how do you communicate these positive changes to consumers? Through the ASSET™ service, brands can apply to carry the Carbon Trust’s “Reducing CO2 Packaging” label to independently communicate their carbon reduction efforts to consumers.

Currently available in Europe, this service allows brands who can demonstrate a carbon footprint reduction of 20% or more to add a certified Carbon Trust label onto their packaging.

What you’ll learn from an ASSET ™ report

ASSET ™ allows brands to compare up to six Amcor or non-Amcor packaging solutions to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of different design and material options.

Through the Carbon Trust-certified ASSET ™ toolkit, brands will learn:

  • The cradle-to-gate or cradle-to-grave environmental comparison of the two packs.
  • Results of six impact indicators to give a balanced quantitative assessment of the environmental performance of each pack.
  • Three easy-to-understand conversion metrics which reflect everyday experiences. Through these metrics, brands will see the implications of switching their pack in the number of CFL light bulbs burning for one year, cars driven for one year and 10-minute showers taken.
