As the first global packaging company to pledge to develop all our packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025, we are continuing to innovate across the markets and regions we serve to replace non-recyclable materials with more sustainable alternatives.
Working hand in hand with our customer, BRF, the Amcor Flexibles Brazil team has put our pledge into practice with its latest innovation – a recycle-ready flow-pack solution for frozen-food goods.
Our more sustainable packaging solution retains all the advantages of traditional packaging but offers recycling options across polyolefin recycling streams, without compromising machinability, packaging performance or on-shelf appearance.
In addition to being recycle ready, the solution is manufactured with a 38%1 reduction in carbon footprint and 44%1 reduction in water consumption, compared with traditional solutions. This is indicative of our commitment to produce more responsible packaging and our commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as we aim to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
The joint development of a recycle-ready, less carbon- and water-intense solution exemplifies why Amcor is the global leader in responsible packaging and the partner of choice for brands who share our commitment and passion for delivering more sustainable solutions and reducing their environmental impact. Our annual investment of more than $100 million in research and development is supporting innovations such as this, delivering products that are better for our customers and the planet.
This is just the latest innovation from Amcor offering more sustainable packaging solutions to the Latin American market. Late last year, we launched a new all-paper packaging solution for butter and margarine, pioneered a designed-to-be-recycled packaging for powdered chocolate in Latin America, created post-consumer recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles for fresh milk for the Argentinian market and unveiled new lightweight plastic bottles for edible oil in the region.

1Based on an Amcor ASSET™ life cycle assessment of the production and manufacture of the recycle-ready solution versus traditional PET/polyethylene (PE), this structure delivers approximately a 38% decrease in carbon footprint, a 53% decrease in non-renewable energy use and a 44% decrease in water consumption in a cradle-to-gate approach.
