At Amcor, we believe in the power of diversity by welcoming people with different talents, cultures and experiences. Our diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) strategy aims to tap into the advantages of diverse teams by creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to reach their full potential. Our employee resource groups (ERGs) play a key role in bringing that strategy to life. In the following conversation, Erin Robertson of human resources and Jill Reed, who co-founded the ABENDI ERG for Black colleagues, explore real-world examples of how we are connecting colleagues and building community spirit across Amcor.

Erin Robertson, talent and development director, Amcor Flexibles North America (AFNA): At Amcor, it’s important that employees feel engaged, included and have a sense of belonging. Employee resource groups (ERGs) are one way to achieve that. They give people a voice and amplify it, creating a community. That’s because employees take pride in these grassroots groups driven by employees for employees, with an executive sponsor. ABENDI is a fantastic example of how our ERGs make an impact.
Jill Reed, occupational health, safety and environmental manager, Amcor Specialty Cartons: Thank you, Erin. It’s really encouraging for us because we feel we can make a difference at Amcor. I co-founded the Amcor Black Employee Network for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ABENDI) two years ago. Our ERG aims to create an inclusive environment that develops and empowers Black colleagues. We want to make a lasting impact on our culture and are dedicated to driving innovation and positive change. For me, if I can help even one colleague this way, it’s worth it.
ER: I completely agree. ERGs can make such a positive impact, and the HR team is always available to coach, guide and support them. We’re a behind-the-scenes support mechanism, and whenever they need us, we’re there.
JR: This has been a great help. I'm very proud that within the first few months, we were able to increase ABENDI's visibility, raise awareness of our work and encourage Black employees to advocate for their career goals. In 2024, we held some great events, including a quiz to mark Juneteenth. We also help Amcor recruit more Black employees by attending job fairs.
ER: That impact on our recruitment efforts is really important. Amcor has ambitious growth plans, and that means we need a steady flow of talented new employees. It’s a proven fact that companies with diverse workforces perform better, so ERGs like ABENDI are driving progress in this and many other ways.
JR: ABENDI’s success is also Amcor’s success and vice versa. Together, we can drive meaningful change by shaping a culture of inclusivity and collaboration. That’s why I’m proud to lead this growing and vibrant ERG, and I’m proud that our mission is so closely aligned with Amcor’s overall goals.
